Invisible Spaces

Process

I cut out an interior plan (from previous page) out of cardboard. on top of that I draw where I will place the furnitures, walls and stairs.

I cut out the furnitures, walls and stairs and stuck it to the ground. I cut out the door in walls.

When I was sticking the walls using glue gun, I stuck the wall in the wrong place. When I took the wall off, few holes appear on the ground. I used glue gun to smooth the surface by filling the holes with glue.

I painted the whole thing using white acrylic paint. When the paint dried , I painted it again to make sure that the colour of the cardboard can't be seen.

I cut out an interior plan (from previous page) and draw where I will place the walls and railing.

I cut out the walls and railing legs and stuck it using glue gun. I cut out doors in the walls. Then I cut out railing out of transparent paper and stuck it to the railing legs.

I painted the second floor using white acrylic paint. When the paint dried, I painted it again. I stuck second floor to the first floor making sure that is stable.

I was struggling to paint the rooms at the second floor, so I leaved them unpainted.

I measured the second floor surface order to create a rooftop surface. I cut out the surface out of cardboard and stuck a railing legs. from the middle toward the edges of the rooftop the railing legs were gradually becoming longer. Then I cut out railings out of transparent paper, making sure that railing match railing legs. I stuck transparent paper to the railing legs. After that I made shelter and stuck it to the railing legs.

At the end , I stuck the rooftop to the second floor.

Evaluation

My project is called ‘Dream or Nightmare’. I intended to investigate different areas of dream and I found futurism, which I also investigated. I have produced a dream house that I want to have in the future. My model has two floors and a rooftop. I painted the interior space in white. I wanted to create a serious and modern mood. The viewer can see the interior space in my model. On first floor there is kitchen, garage and living room. In garage there is a big cupboard for some stuff and space for the car. In kichen there is cupboard and space to cook. In living room there is dinner table, sofa and cupboard where TV stands. On second floor there are five rooms with balcony. The rooftop is a place to relax and get some fresh air. I made a rooftop deck so people can stay in the shade when its will be hot outside. The whole house is made of cardboard. The railing is made of transparent paper to imitate a glass. Daniel Libeskind inspired me to use geometric figures to create a building. His work contains a lot of geometric shapes features. Therefore, I start creating ideas using geometric shapes. Kurt Schwitters is known from his collages. Therefore, I was experimented with collages to create a different essence of a spaces. I drew some ideas that was based on geometric and origami shapes. Then from those ideas I come out with my final idea that was inspired by my previous ideas. Later I do some sketches and collages on interior spaces, arranging spaces and essence of the space. I plan my final piece in detail and then I started to make it by following my plan in sketchbook. Firstly, I cut out floors and the walls out of cardboard and I stuck the using glue gun. I cut out the windows and doors. Then I cut out the furniture and stuck it. After that I used transparent paper for the railing. Lastly, I made rooftop following my plan. I stuck one wall in a wrong place with a glue gun and when I took this wall off, there were holes in the ground. I used glue gun to fill those holes and make the surface even and smooth. When I stuck everything together and started painting, I was unable to paint the rooms on second floor so I leaved them unpainted. Also, when I placed the rooftop those rooms were covered, and they only can be seen through the small doors. My outcome does what I intended it to do. The strength of this model is arrangement of the space, stability, the essence of the space and materials. I could improve the furniture in rooms; make it more creative and fill the space with it.
